COM7028 "Client Brief" Starts 6 Jan 2025

Module COM7028 "Client Brief" started on 6 January 2025 (you can see a full list of academic deadlines here).  In COM7028 students learn how to complete a short piece of animation for a client, and also contextualise the practical outcome with a written assignment of 1,500-2000 words.

The deadline for the Client Project is Friday 14th March 2025, before 2pm.  The deadline for the Written Assignment is Friday 11th April 2025 before 2pm.

Finding a Client for COM7028 Animation Module
As part of your COM7028 module at BNU, you are tasked with finding a client and creating a short animation tailored to their brief.  While this may seem daunting at first, it is a opportunity to flex your creative muscles, build professional relationships, and create work you can showcase in your portfolio.

Here are some tips to help you find a client:

1. Start with Your Network
Don’t underestimate the power of connections. Reach out to friends, family, or colleagues who might need an animation for a project, business, or personal venture. Even if they’re unsure, explaining the scope of your work and the benefits can pique their interest.

2. Look for Charities or Small Businesses
Local charities and small businesses often welcome creative collaborations. They might need an explainer video, promotional content, or a social media animation. Approach them with a clear proposal outlining how your animation could support their goals.

3. Leverage Social Media and Online Communities
Post on LinkedIn, Instagram, or creative forums to let people know you’re looking for clients as part of your coursework. Be clear about the scope, timeline, and potential benefits for them—free or discounted professional-grade animation!

4. Attend Networking Events
Check out local meetups or university-hosted events to connect with potential clients. A face-to-face pitch can leave a lasting impression.

5. Collaborate with Fellow Students
If you’re struggling to find a client, consider working with a fellow student. For instance, someone in marketing, film, or design might need animated content for their projects.

6. Cold Outreach to Commercial Clients
Identify businesses or organisations you admire and send them a professional email or message. Keep it short, highlight your enthusiasm, and explain how your work could help them.

What to Consider When Choosing a Client
Feasibility: Can their brief be completed within your module’s timeframe and technical constraints?
Impact: Will the project challenge you creatively and look impressive in your portfolio?
Communication: Is the client responsive and clear in their expectations?

Final Thoughts
This module is an opportunity to blend creativity with professional practice. Take the time to understand your client’s needs and deliver something that exceeds their expectations. Not only will you gain valuable experience, but you’ll also create work that could open doors to future opportunities.
