Free lecture on independent Japanese animation on Wednesday 26 March at 6.30pm

Wednesday 26th March

The Japan Foundation in London has invited Nobuaki Doi, animation critic and founder of CALF, the independent Japanese DVD label to give an overview of Japanese independent animation.

Independent Japanese animators are producing innovative works which is often very different from the commercial animation or ‘anime’ style which Japan is so famous for. Showcasing the work of Japanese creators such as Koji Yamamura and Atsushi Wada, Nobuaki Doi will discuss Japanese independent animation as a source of global inspiration as well as exploring what makes Japanese animation among the best in the world.

Following his presentation, Doi will be joined in conversation with Jayne Pilling, founder of the British Animation Awards, and Mirai Mizue, an award-winning abstract animation director, for a discussion panel on the challenges facing contemporary animators in the UK and Japan.

Full event details can be found above. This event is free to attend but booking is essential. To reserve a place, please send your name and the title of the event to event@jpf.org.uk.
