The Animator's Checklist

The Animator's Checklist
Here is a link to an excellent animation blog, "The Animator's Checklist", which gives a really useful introduction to some of the key principles of animation.

The website is hosted in Spain (but written in English), and has some really useful resources for learning animation.

Take the ball throw above, where the animator has explained the difference between key poses and breakdowns, and also shown the elements of anticipation, action, and reaction, that make up the shot.  These are part of the 12 Principles of Animation, first outlined by Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnstone in their classic book "The Illusion of Life" - still relevant to the craft of animation today.

The Animator's Checklist is a great resource and we're recommending it to all our students.

For more on the experience of studying at Bucks New University, come and visit us at one of our Open Days, take a virtual tour of one of our animation studios, check out what our students think of our course, and see why we're ranked in the top 12 creative universities in the UK.
