Autodesk Launches Maya Indie License

Great news for all our animation students at Bucks - Autodesk has launched the "Maya Indie License", allowing students who have learned to animate using the free student version of the software to enter the marketplace at a much-reduced price.

This is great news for our graduates; Autodesk offers junior animators the chance to "become a pro at a price you can afford". No longer are digital artists and animators blocked from entering the market for making animated films in Maya by the high price tag for a commercial license.

Autodesk Maya Indie
Autodesk is currently piloting indie versions of Maya so that recent graduates, freelancers, hobbyists and those starting out in the industry have a more affordable option to use the software.  This means that a Bucks graduate could take on, for example, a small indie project with a modest budget - perhaps £1-2,000 - and still make a profit on the job.

Who is Eligibile for the Indie License
  • Your annual gross revenue from design work must be less than USD$100,000 per year
  • Only one license can be used per user or organization
  • You must be based in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK or the USA
The automatic renewal will be turned off before your annual subscription of Maya Indie expires. You may check your automatic renewal setting by going to your Autodesk Account.

Student License
In the meantime, of course, our students can get hold of a free student license for Maya, which is restricted to non-commercial use.
