Pinewood Studios
Bucks New Uni undergraduate film & TV (including animation) students are benefiting from a new partnership with Creative Media Skills (CMS) at Pinewood Studios.

We're delighted to be able to offer a meaningful industry partnership that allows our students to get access to one of the world's leading film studios during their studies at Bucks.

Creative MedaSkills
Creative Media Skills at Pinewood
Creative Media Skills is a hub for studio-based vocational film training.  The CMS platform enables award winning film industry professionals to pass on their knowledge to the next generation of film makers. According to their website, "the Film Industry is the UK's fastest growing sector and from 2001-2015, 48 of the 200 top grossing films released worldwide were made in the UK."

CMS is located within Pinewood Studios, ensuring that training opportunities are "unique, state of the art and world class". CMS welcomes groups of 10 - 15 students for our industry led training opportunities.  Courses are designed by employers from within the industry and their focus is on employability, entrepreneurial skills and industry focused placements.

How it works

Our undergrdauate film students benefit from around 14 days of Industry related activity and masterclasses in year one, and this increases greatly in year two, when they will spend up to half of their time at Pinewood, working with various industry professionals to esnure they get real-world skills and training.  In the third year of studies our students benefit from industry professionals as tutors, as well as an academic tutor to oversee their project work and studies.

Motion Capture at Pinewood
Pinewood Studios - home of 007
Our animation students have long benefited from our partnership with Pinewood, and especially with  the Motion Capture studio Centroid, based in Pinewood Studios, which is Europe's largest MoCap Studio.

Motion Capture, sometimes called "Performance Capture", is an animation technique which captures real-time actor's performances and turns them into digital data which can be used to create animated characters - like the character "Gollum" played by Andy Serkis in The Lord of The Rings.

Bond villains live on at Pinewood
Bucks and Centroid offer students a partnership that offers Centroid opportunities for research and development, and also gives our students a chance to use a leading industry facility for their student films. It's just the kind of thing that universities should be doing - partnering with industry to create a mutually beneficial relationship.

Centroid has a large sound stage, hosting 150 separate cameras which create real time 3D visualisation of virtual characters, including full body and facial capture. Among the film projects they have worked on are Harry Potter, Prometheus and Watchmen, as well as countless TV commercials and games.
