Dinosaur Animation Tutorial

We've completed a new series of videos on dinosaur locomotion for our animation students at BNU, who are currently working on Module DA703, Animals and Creatures.  The tutorial uses the free Dino rig by Harry Geoghegan, available for free download at Creative Crash.  The goal of the tutorial is to create a believable dinosaur walk cycle and performance.  To get a flavour of the exercise, watch the free theory video above.

Animating dinosaurs
Dinosaurs have been a staple of visual effects movies ever since Jurassic Park.  With the visual effects industry expanding rapidly globally, and employing more and more animators - dinosaur locomotion is a very good thing to have on your demo reels.

Dinosaur Tutorial
In the tutorial students will learn how to:
  • create a dinosaur walk cycle based on research and reference
  • use offset curves to add flexibility
  • create a believable set
  • animate a moving camera
  • add special effects such as camera shakes
  • bake your curves
  • create a performance

Animation Apprentice
All our enrolled students will find the video tutorial at the official Animation Apprentice website.  To get the videos sent to you, just send me an email.
