Many congratulations to Bucks New Uni animation graduate Lyuboslav Angelov for starting a new position as Assistant Technical Director at DNEG.

Technical Directors occupy one of the key roles in the 3D pipeline, bridging the gap between the keyframe animators and the final render; it is a role sometimes called Technical Animator.

TDs tackle technical animation, and is currently a major skills shortage in the animation pipeline.

Many congratulations to Bucks animation graduate Paul Amiras on his new position as Layout Artist TD at DNEG.

Double Negative is one of the UK's leading animation and visual effects companies, and now a global brand, with offices in Vancouver, Mumbai, Los Angeles, Chennai, Montréal, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, and Goa.

3D Layout is one of the first interesting and challenging parts of the production process, working closely with the director to establish the cinematic look and feel of the project.

Archie Dennis at Double Negative

Many congratulations to Bucks alumnus Archie Dennis, who recently graduated from Bucks with a First Class Degree in Animation & Visual Effects.

After polishing his demo reel and applying for various jobs, Archie secured a position as a runner at London based VFX giant Double Negative. DNeg are the largest vendors of visual effects in Europe and their London studio can house over 1000 artists. We asked Archie to talk a little about his new job and how it came about.

Good news for animators in the UK! A new studio is coming to town, bringing with it the prospect of jobs, creative success, and - at last - a proper animation studio in London. Good news for UK animation - DNeg and Elizabeth Murdoch to open a new studio


According to Variety, Elizabeth Murdoch and VFX house Double Negative are opening an animation studio in the UK, known as Locksmith Animation. The venture is being piloted by Sarah Smith, who was the writer and co-director of the Aardman animated feature film Arthur Christmas.

One of the key aspects of finding a job is knowing who is hiring. If the jobs aren't there, or your skills don't match the vacancy, then it doesn't matter how talented you are - you won't be likely to find work. So, a big part of finding a job is knowing what is out there, who is hiring, and when.
