Lyuboslav Angelov Assistant TD at DNEG

Lyuboslav Angelov
Many congratulations to Bucks New Uni animation graduate Lyuboslav Angelov for starting a new position as Assistant Technical Director at DNEG.

Technical Directors occupy one of the key roles in the 3D pipeline, bridging the gap between the keyframe animators and the final render; it is a role sometimes called Technical Animator.

TDs tackle technical animation, and is currently a major skills shortage in the animation pipeline.

What is Redshift? - by Lyuboslav Angelov

Go to any animation or vfx festival and you will hear hair-raising tales of super-long render times, of waiting for days on end for a single frame or batch of frames to render.

In reality, CG artists need our renders to be as quick and efficient as possible.  Long render times increase our costs and take too much time to get things done.

Recently, Bucks animation undergraduate Lyuboslav Angelov has been getting great results from Redshift, a new rendering tool - which has also been adopted by leading London studios such as Blue Zoo. We asked Lyuboslav to explain how Redshift works and how students can benefit from its speed and simplicity.

Lyuboslav Angelov Learns to Animate Like a Jedi

How would a Jedi walk? Animating a person walking may seem like a simple exercise, but it's a tricky thing to get right. How people move has a lot to say about their character and personality, and it's no surprise that one of the first things an animator at a studio like Disney or DreamWorks will do with a new character rig - is to create a walk cycle. How someone walks is a window into who that character is, and how they might behave.

Lyuboslav Angelov explains what it's like coming from overseas to study at Bucks

From Bulgaria to High Wycombe
Lyuboslav Angelov is one of our first year animation students, having made his way to High Wycombe from Bulgaria to start with us on the second year of the new Animation and Visual Effects course this past September. We asked him to talk about what it was like coming to study in the UK, how he is finding the course so far, and what some of the challenges have been.
